How Comot Works

Comot connects language learners and teachers through a simple discover-and-match system. Here's everything you need to know.

Everyone Can Learn & Teach

On Comot, you're never just a student or just a teacher — you can be both. If you speak Korean and want to learn Spanish, you can take a Spanish class while teaching Korean to others.

For each language you speak, you can have one active class running at a time. You don't need to set anything up — your class exists the moment you join Comot.

Discover People

In Discover mode, you see one person at a time — their photo and the languages they speak. You have two choices:

"I want to learn their language"

You're expressing interest in being their student. They'll be notified, and you'll be prompted to pay US$30 to enroll in their class.

"I want to invite them to my class"

You're inviting them to learn your language from you. They'll get a notification and can choose to accept.

You can also skip or report someone. No pressure — discover at your own pace.

When You Want to Learn from Someone

Say you (User A) want to learn Korean from someone (User B):

  • User B gets a notification: "Someone wants to join your Korean class."
  • No approval needed from User B — you pay US$30 and you're enrolled.
  • If User B doesn't want to teach, she simply ignores the notification.
Premium Perk

If User B is a Premium member, she can see your name, photo, and contact info right away. If she's not Premium, she only sees that someone is interested — no details.

When You Invite Someone to Your Class

Say you (User A) want to invite someone (User B) to learn English from you:

  • User B gets a notification: "Someone wants to invite you to their English class."
  • If you're a Premium member: User B sees your photo and contact info.
  • If you're not Premium: User B sees your photo only — no contact info.

If User B says yes:

  • If you're Premium: you see User B's full contact details and photo.
  • If you're not Premium: you only see that someone accepted — no details.
  • User B is prompted to pay US$30 to enroll in your class.

Class Activation — The Magic Number is 5

Once 5 students have paid for your class, the magic happens:

  • All 5 student contacts are revealed to you — names, photos, and how to reach them.
  • You can now communicate privately to schedule and run the class.
  • That class is concluded and a fresh new class starts at 0 students.

As a teacher, you earn US$150 per completed class (5 students × US$30).

Becoming a Teacher

You don't need to sign up as a teacher in advance. When your first paying student appears, you'll be walked through a quick setup wizard:

  • Set up your teacher profile (name, language, tagline, photo).
  • Review and sign a simple teaching agreement.
  • Start building your class!

There's no obligation — if you'd rather just be a student, simply ignore any teaching notifications.

Premium Membership

Premium is $10/mo ($120/year) — just $99 for 12 months this month.

What you get:

  • See who's interested in you — photo, name, and contact info of people who want to join your class.
  • Share your identity when inviting — your contact info is shown to people you invite, making them more likely to accept.
  • Proactive outreach — don't wait for 5 students. Reach out directly to interested learners.

Without Premium, you see anonymous interest counts only — you know people are interested, but not who they are (until your class activates at 5 students).

Refunds

If a class hasn't reached 5 students yet, you can request a full refund anytime by clicking the refund button on your dashboard. No questions asked.
